Intro to Lead Climbing and Belaying

We will go over both lead climbing and lead belaying techniques in this comprehensive class. We will teach proper and efficient methods for the climber to clip the rope, and discuss and identify improper clips, and practice taking a few falls. On the belaying side we go over how to manage the rope for the climber, giving and taking up slack as well as how to catch falls. During the class there is ample opportunity to practice falling and catching falls. Gear included.

Lead climbing and belaying is a fun and challenging set of skills that will further your climbing knowledge and expand the terrain available to you and your partners.

Prerequisites: Participants must be Ascent Studio top rope belay qualified, 14 or older, and able to complete a 5.9 route on top rope.
Duration: 2.5-3 Hours
Cost: Member $40 | Non Member $55

Minimum class size: 2 persons.
Maximum class size: 4 persons.
If you are the only one signed up for the class, the class may get rescheduled.

Disclaimer: Climbers who take this class are taught the proper skills required to pass the Ascent Studio lead test. However, completing the class does not guarantee that you will pass the test - some climbers will need additional practice. We require that participants wait at least one day before taking the final lead test in order to prove that they have retained all of the skills necessary to safely lead climb and belay at Ascent Studio.
